HopeNet Fundraiser: Taste of Larchmont 2012

Last night I finished a set of prints requested by one of our favorite clients, HopeNet. These folks (mostly volunteers) are everyday heroes for a cause that’s dear to my heart. Help support HopeNet, an interfaith and community effort to eliminate hunger and homelessness in metro Los Angeles.

…the habit of mind which leads
to a search for relationships
between facts becomes
of the highest importance
in the production of ideas.

A 5-Step Technique for Producing Ideas circa 1939by

Years later, upon reissuing A Technique for Producing Ideas, Young recounted the many letters he had gotten from “poets, painters, engineers, scientists, and even one writer of legal briefs” who had found his technique empowering and helpful. But what’s perhaps most interesting is the following note he made to the postscript of a reprint:

From my own further experience in advertising, government, and public affairs I find no essential points which I would modify in the idea-producing process. There is one, however, on which I would put greater emphasis. This is as to the store of general materials in the idea-producer’s reservoir.

I am convinced, however, that you gather this vicarious experience best, not when you are boning up on it for an immediate purpose, but when you are pursuing it as an end in itself.

I have just one wish for you —
the good luck to be somewhere
where you are free to maintain the
kind of integrity I have described,
and where you do not feel forced
by a need to maintain your position
in the organization, or financial
support, or so on, to lose your
integrity. May you have that freedom.

Everything you can imagine is real.

I downloaded some new music yesterday, to suit the fresh creative mood I’ve found myself in. It’s fantastic (the music, not the mood - well maybe that too, but I was referring to the music).

Anyhow, what brought this on? I don’t know. I don’t question it, I just go with it. I’ve recently finished a book (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Murakami) and really enjoyed it, perhaps that helped. The characters came alive for me, much as they have from past much-loved books, so I’ve filed a few new additions to my growing list of favorite characters: Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel and the tiger, John Blackthorne and Mariko, Liza Hamilton and Lee, and now Cinnamon and the cat. These (and a few others to be saved for future rambly posts) are my preferred company for the imaginary conversations in my head, while I design and paint and listen to music…

…in other words, dreaming while I’m awake.  :)

Adorable is as adorable does.

I love this inspired assembly of concept, design, and fun execution. If you can’t play with your food, might as well play with your clothes. :]

How fun! Serbian designer, Ana Ljubinkovic, plays up the digital worlds influence on fashion by creating a Spring/Summer 2012 entirely of animated GIFs. A cute concept for a conceptually cute collection filled with floral, pastel, and interesting structured silhouettes. We’re into it!
